Program Notes for the Classical Concerts

Last Season

Performances featured music of Christmas in early December, a classical work in early March, and a Pops concert in early May.

Traditionally performing in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh, the audience outreach extended to New York City with an additional classical concert at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.

Holiday Concert

"We Wish You a Merry Christmas!" Accompaniment was provided by David Billings, organ.

Classical Concert

"Music of the 'Three B's'" featuring Bach's Cantata #4: Christ lag in Todesbanden; Beethoven's Choral Fantasy, featuring pianist Antonio Fermin; and Brahms' Schicksalslied. The soloists for these performances were soprano Katy Williams, mezzo-soprano Eva Rainforth, tenor Ryan Keeling, and bass Adam Fry. Accompanied by the Academy Chamber Orchestra.

Pops Concert

"Made in America!" This concert featured favorites from such legendary American composers as Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber, & Morten Lauridsen together with the Pennsylvania premiere of a newly commissioned work by Dale Warland. These performances featured cellist Paige Riggs, pianist Bryan Sable, bassist Justin Bendel, and percussionist Bob Rawsthorne.
